Research Training Scheme (RTS)

Through the Research Training Scheme (RTS) the Australian Government provides a quota of fee exempt places for postgraduate research places to recognised Universities.

If you are granted an RTS place you are not required to pay tuition fees. However, you can still expect to pay the on-going costs of being part of an academic environment and conducting research.

Tuition fee calculations for postgraduate research degrees

From 2012, tuition fees and RTS load for postgraduate research degrees will be charged on a pro-rata basis based on the number of days a student is enrolled in each research degree semester and whether the student is enrolled after the research census date.

Research degree semesters are as follows:

  • Autumn - 01 January to 30 June
  • Spring   - 01 July to 31 December

Please note - Fees will be calculated as the number of days of candidature/number of days in research degree semester x 0.5 annual tuition fee rate.

Domestic full fee paying (postgraduate research)

The only Postgraduate research course that is offered on a full fee paying basis is:

  • C02051 Doctor of Project Management  - 2012 cost per credit point $437

However, you may be required to study as a domestic full fee paying (postgraduate research) if:

  • you did not receive an RTS place, or
  • you have exceeded the maximum time allowed to complete your course.

Use the postgraduate domestic students by courses fee calculator to view current tuition fees.

Some domestic full fee paying (postgraduate research) may be eligible for FEE-HELP Commonwealth assistance.
